Reviews of "Prisoner of Hope"

"This is a beautiful story about the triumph of the human spirit. Thank you, Darren, for reminding us to constantly challenge ourselves to push our limits."
Sim Ann –
Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Communications and Information

“All the para athletes I have met are amazing people. Their stories speak of the raw emotion of defeat and triumph, the grit and determination to rise above daily life challenges, and most importantly, the will power to hold on to and pursue their dreams. I was delighted that Darren had taken the bold step to share his story in this book. Reading it, I could not help but be inspired by the purposefulness of his journey and the impact he continues to have through his work, life and sharing. An athlete, scholar, entrepreneur, educator, and motivational speaker are some of the ways to describe Darren. Above all, I would describe him as a great human being that has made it his life’s work to help others grow.”
Lim Teck Yin – CEO, Sport Singapore

"In “Prisoner of Hope”, Darren not only brings us through a harrowing journey of change and transformation, but also a story of practical application on bouncing back from his catastrophe and renewed hope for himself and his community."
David Lim – Leader, 1st Singapore Mt Everest Expedition 1998 and author of How Leaders Lead: 71 ways to lead yourself and others

“When our paths crossed at the Marine Parade Central Food Centre, it was a special moment of my life. I was battling my Stage 4 leukemia then. I could sense that indomitable spirit in this young man whom I came to know as Dr Darren Chua going about in the physically challenging Food Centre. As one who loves to learn from others, I went up to him to have a chat which was most uplifting hearing about Darren’s life journey. I envisaged that Darren should bring this same determination and fighting spirit to the sports of wheelchair table tennis and win for Singapore. Darren has gone on to do Singapore proud. Darren’s story and his latest book “Prisoner of Hope” gives us hope that “no journey is too tough” and invigorates us to constantly reinvent ourselves and live life without limits.”
